On my second day of
volunteering, I was clocked in and
directed to the Women’s Center Registration Desk. Tammi was there and expecting me. She told me today would just be a day that I
could watch and that way I could see how everything normally flows. The morning seemed to flow pretty
smoothly. Patients would come in and
Tammi would ask for their information, then she would register them. This day was basically just so I could see
what would be expected of me when Tammi was away from the desk. It was originally planned that bed side
registration would take place while I was at the desk, but an administrated meeting
had not occurred yet to set up the final details. So, Tammi spent the morning carrying on with
her normal work, and she also explained to me the physical set up of the
hospital so I could direct people as well as introduced me to the staff that
was walking past us every now and then.
So, all in all the first day was a lot of sitting and watching, but I
did get a very good picture of what would be going on when I was at the desk.
